Albany International Airport (IATA: ALB, ICAO: KALB, FAA LID: ALB) is six miles northwest of Albany, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is owned by the Albany County Airport Authority.

The main terminal has two levels. Level 1 houses the main check-in area, baggage claim, car rental, and taxi services, while the public waiting lounge is on Level 2. The security checkpoint leads passengers to a central atrium and all three concourses, A, B, and C.

The airport covers an area of 1,000 acres and sits 87 meters above sea level at 42°44′57″N and 073°48′07″W.

History of Albany International Airport

Considered the oldest municipal airport in the United States, Albany International Airport has transformed into a modern airport since its operation began in 1908.

The current airport was built in 1928 in a new location in Colonie, Albany. During the 1950's, the government threatened to shut down its services for safety concerns.

In 1960, Albany County bought the airport from the city government for $4.4 million and built a new terminal that featured a two-story building with ticket counters, a restaurant, and baggage claim, and a concourse with a viewing deck.

Today, Albany International Airport is the fourth largest airport operating in the state of New York, serving more than 1.5 million passengers annually.

Its busiest routes are Baltimore, Maryland. Charlotte, North Carolina, Orlando, Florida, Chicago–O'Hare, Illinois, Atlanta, Georgia, Detroit, Michigan, Chicago–Midway, Illinois, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Albany Airport offers local, regional, and long-distance bus services, including shuttle service to JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports. Buses are in the Lodging and Transportation Center at Level 1, near the Baggage Claim area.

Trains at Albany International Airport

The Albany–Rensselaer Rail Station is located 13 miles from the airport. To get there, passengers take a taxi from ALB for around 17 minutes at $50, plus a mandatory tip. Alternatively, passengers can hop into Bus Line 7 from the airport, which takes 40 min and costs $2 - $3 in either direction.
